Traveled from East Yorkshire hull, many times to this hotel. Situated in the right place, shops and attractions around. Lovely hotel friendly staff. All rooms were clean and tidy. Enjoyed the stay very much.
"Fab price for room and breakfast" 5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2017 on tripadvisor
Booked directly on the website, which made this stay a lot cheaper than through other sites. Basic, but clean and tidy. Breakfast was included and was really good. Short distance from the workplace, so ideal location for me.

Two night Sunday to Tuesday, First time We've been to Sheffield Came to a Gig at The Arena, nice Hotel suited our needs, clean, good staff in every department. We met, edge of City centre so it's pretty quiet, right next to the Canal Basin, nice for a wee walk around, close to the Supertram, would visit and stay Here again. Thanks for a great couple of Nights.

"Basic room" 5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 Feb, 2017 on tripadvisor
The room was acceptable clean and tidy. All mod cons. Clean bathroom. For the price I paid I was very happy. I would definately stay there again. Next to ncp car park £7.50 for 24 hours. Did not use bar or restaurant as conveniently situated for city centre. Easy route out of city in rush hour traffic.
"Clean affordable hotel" 5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 Feb, 2017 on tripadvisor
Stayed here during a work trip in Rotherham. Hotel was very clean and affordable. Shower was great and that is the most important thing for me in a hotel. Staff are very friendly and helpful and nothing is a problem especially Emily on reception were nothing is a problem at all. She is a credit to this fine run hotel.
Will stay there again if I'm in the area. Thanx
"Good value and consistently reliable" 5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 Jan, 2017 on tripadvisor
I find the negativity of the reviews on here confusing.
I have stayed at the Metropolitan several times in the last few months, from March through to this most recent stay covered in this review (December 2016), most of them as a home from home while actually living in Sheffield. The same comments could hold for all these stays.
The hotel is handily located, less than five minutes' walk from the city centre, Supertram, bus links and interchange and within ten minutes' walk of the railway station. It is a few minutes away from the pleasant canal basin, theatres and Ponds Forge.
Yes, the rooms aren't the most modern in terms of decor (have not stayed in the 'business class rooms so cannot comment on these), but they are sizeable, have all the facilities you need and decent bathrooms. The rooms are clean, the beds large and comfortable. Despite the busy roads close by, the rooms are well sound-proofed from it. Car parking is readily available.
The reception staff are very friendly and helpful (not always the case in the city).
Elevator and stairs to all floors.
I do like the weather station at the bottom of the lifts too!
Rooms can routinely be found for under £50 - as such it is routinely among the cheapest decent hotels in the city and well worth the money. There are two chain hotels a stone's throw from this one in the direction of the city centre that have been very disappointing by comparison and more expensive.
"Christmas 2 nt stopover" 5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 Dec, 2016 on tripadvisor
Can't fault our stay. Booked here to visit family over Xmas. Was greeted by Alex who was very friendly at reception and gave us a fab free upgrade to business class room 810 which was just the job! Comfy bed huge room little extras, water, slippers, toiletries biscuits. Even an iron and board. Loved it so much we booked our son and partner a business class for Xmas night before they travel home to France. Breakfast was very nice and the staff friendly working hard on Christmas Day to serve us even though it's always horrible having to work it as I know myself. Thank you for making us welcome over the holiday period will definitely stay here again.
"The balm to sooth" 5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 Nov, 2016 on tripadvisor
We walked into the hotel after a bad experience at another Sheffield Hotel to a lovely warm welcome. We were far too early but were able to leave our luggage while we found our way around. Coming back to check in which was fast and efficient we found our room which was very roomy and headshot the also roomy bathroom for a beautiful hot bath which soothed my soul. The hotel itself has a slight retro about it, warm and definitely not clinical The bar was as was the dining room Snacks was the order of the day but they did provide a list of nearby restaurants. Fully recommended and we will be back in two weeks.
